Greyhounds Rain Down Record 3-Point Barrage in Sophomore Night Rout of Colts
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — It was a night to celebrate the sophomores, and ASU Mid-South did so in historic fashion, knocking down a school-record 23 three-pointers in a dominant 118-84 victory over UA Cossatot to close out the regular season.
The Greyhounds wasted no time setting the tone on their home floor, striking first before the Colts briefly evened the score at 5-5. From that point on, however, it was all ASU Mid-South. The Greyhounds quickly found their rhythm from beyond the arc and never looked back, unleashing a barrage of three-pointers that overwhelmed the visitors.
By halftime, ASU Mid-South had built a commanding 59-36 lead, fueled by an incredible 11 made threes in the opening 20 minutes. The Greyhounds' offensive explosion left UA Cossatot scrambling defensively, unable to keep pace with the relentless shooting display.
The second half brought more of the same.
ASU Mid-South continued to stretch the floor and knock down shot after shot from deep, turning the game into a showcase of offensive efficiency. The lead ballooned to as many as 38 points late in the contest, as the Greyhounds' depth and unselfish play kept the pressure on until the final buzzer.
Jaxson Yancy led the way for ASU Mid-South with 20 points, including five made three-pointers, pacing a balanced scoring effort that saw multiple Greyhounds reach double figures. Braylon Frazier provided a major spark off the bench with 18 points, while David Brewer and Randy Emerson each added 17.
Phillip Tillman and Hugh McFarland chipped in 12 points apiece, with Taylor Conner adding 7. Dejavius Johnson and Michael Stewart each scored 6, and Terence Reamey rounded out the scoring with 3.
UA Cossatot was led by Amory Arie's 20 points, followed closely by Dylan Glover with 19. Peter Serunjoji added 15 for the Colts.
After the game, Greyhounds' head coach Cody Hastings reflected on the significance of the night, both in the record books and for his players.
"It was a special day in a lot of ways," he said. "To break the record for most threes in a game is something these guys will always remember, but even more than that, getting to watch these sophomores play their last regular season game on their home floor meant a lot. I really just enjoyed sitting back and watching them play for the love of the game and have fun. I love these guys."
Hastings also made it clear that while the moment was worth celebrating, the focus quickly shifts to the postseason.
"We'll enjoy it today and tomorrow, but Monday we're right back to business getting ready for National Park. We know they're a good team, so we have to be ready to show up and play."
With the win, ASU Mid-South caps off an impressive regular season at 22-7 overall and 15-3 in region play, carrying strong momentum into the postseason.
The Greyhounds will now turn their attention to the Region Tournament, where they are set to travel to North Arkansas College on Wednesday, February 25. ASU Mid-South will face National Park College in the opening round, with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
