Balanced Attack Powers ASU Mid-South Past Jackson State, 92–70
West Memphis, ARK -
ASU Mid-South leaned on depth, defense, and balance Tuesday night as the Greyhounds pulled away in the second half to defeat Jackson State Community College 92–70, placing five players in double figures in the win.
The Greyhounds endured a sluggish start offensively, struggling to find a rhythm in the first half as shots refused to fall consistently from the floor. Despite the cold shooting, ASU Mid-South stayed within control of the game by locking in defensively, holding the Green Jays to just 35 points in the opening half. That defensive effort allowed the Greyhounds to head into the break clinging to a slim three-point advantage.
The tone changed quickly after halftime.
ASU Mid-South came out of the locker room with renewed energy, turning defensive stops into easy transition opportunities. What had been a three-point game rapidly turned into a double-digit lead as the Greyhounds strung together stops, steals, and finishes at the rim. Jackson State made one final push to cut into the deficit, but ASU Mid-South answered once again, stretching the lead back out to 20 and putting the game firmly out of reach.
"We didn't shoot it the way we're capable of in the first half, but our defense never wavered," said head coach Cody Hastings. "When you defend the way we did and share the basketball, good things are going to happen. The second half was a great example of turning defense into offense. It's always a good night when everybody who suited up was able to get some minutes and score. It's a great way to end 2025. Excited for them to go home and relax and recover as we get right back to it in January."
Braylon Frazier led all scorers with a game-high 18 points for ASU Mid-South. Hugh McFarland continued his all-around play with 15 points, seven assists, and five steals, igniting the Greyhounds on both ends of the floor. Michael Stewart stayed hot from the field, adding 14 points, while Randy Emerson provided a strong spark off the bench with 11 points and seven rebounds. Phillip Tillman rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points, narrowly missing a double-double while also contributing nine rebounds and five assists.
Taylor Conner chipped in eight points, and Mikell Lewis added seven as the Greyhounds showcased their depth throughout the night.
Jackson State was led by Dallas Berkley's with 15 points. Chris Mitchell finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Cooper Loll and Ron Bribson each added 10 points for the Green Jays.
With the win, ASU Mid-South improves to 9–5 on the season. The Greyhounds will return to the Dog House in 2026, hosting conference opponent SAU Tech on January 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
