Jones College Tops ASU Mid-South 88–78 on Halloween Night
West Memphis, Arkansas. — The Jones College Bobcats handed ASU Mid-South an 88–78 loss on Halloween night, using a strong performance shooting behind the 3 point line.
Despite a spirited effort from the Greyhounds, Jones College's balanced attack and timely shooting proved to be the difference down the stretch. The Greyhounds would get down by as many as 19 in the 2nd half before cutting it to 8 on a couple of occassions, but it was the Bobcats who were able to hold on late.
Jones College was led by Jay Tyler's 24 points, followed by Bob Dickson with 20, Braylon Barnes with 14, and Keron Jackson with 13. The Bobcats' balanced scoring attack helped them maintain control down the stretch after holding an 8 point halftime lead.
The Greyhounds showed plenty of firepower in their season opener, led by Phillip Tillman, who poured in 22 points to pace the ASU Mid-South offense. Jaxson Yancy added 16 points, while Randy Emerson chipped in 11, and Mikell Lewis finished with 10 as the Greyhounds kept the game competitive throughout.
"What a heck of a way to start the season battling the preseason #6 team in D1 JUCO," said ASU Mid-South head coach Cody Hastings. "We were able to learn a lot about our team tonight, and I like where we could be heading. I told the guys in the locker room, if we can just cut the little mental mistakes in half that we have a chance to have a special year. We have a lot to correct and get better, but first things first is that we have to be able to turn the page and get ready for a good Northwest Mississippi team tomorrow."
ASU Mid-South (0–1) will look to bounce back tomorrow, November 1 when they host Northwest Mississippi (1-0) at 3:00 in The Dog House for day two of the Greyhound Tip-Off Classic.
