Greyhounds Avenge Earlier Loss, Defeat Northeast Mississippi 80–66 Behind Frazier’s 20
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — In a physical, whistle-filled matchup featuring 49 fouls and five technicals, ASU Mid-South kept its composure and delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, defeating Northeast Mississippi 80–66 on Wednesday night. The win avenges a nine-point road loss suffered on November 11 in Booneville.
The Tigers opened the night with early momentum, jumping out to a 10–4 lead before the Greyhounds called a timeout to regroup. The adjustment paid off immediately. ASU Mid-South drilled back-to-back three-pointers on consecutive possessions to tie the game, and once the Greyhounds grabbed the lead, they never trailed again.
ASU Mid-South carried a 42–33 advantage into the halftime break, but Northeast Mississippi came out of the locker room with renewed energy, holding the Greyhounds to just six points over the first seven minutes of the second half. Despite the stall, ASU Mid-South steadied itself and regained rhythm on both ends of the floor.
Defensively, the Greyhounds clamped down, limiting the Tigers to just 34.4% shooting from the field in the second half while holding them to 0-for-12 from beyond the arc. Offensively, the Greyhounds attacked relentlessly, earning 34 free-throw attempts—30 of which came in the second half.
Braylon Frazier led ASU Mid-South with a standout performance, scoring 20 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three. Taylor Conner provided a major spark off the bench with 14 points, while Phillip Tillman filled the stat sheet with 11 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Dejavius Johnson added 9 points, and Hugh McFarland and Jaxson Yancy each finished with 8.
Northeast Mississippi was led by Jalen Chandler, who posted 22 points and 11 rebounds. Yoshi Nimmo added 9 points, and Ezekiel Udozorh contributed 8 off the bench.
"I'm incredibly proud of how our guys kept their composure in such a physical game," Coach Hastings said. "With guys getting in foul trouble, we needed other guys to step up and we got that tonight. Braylon coming off the bench shooting the ball at a high level. I felt like he didn't miss in shoot around earlier and I feel it transferred over into tonight's game. Taylor brought us big energy and put himself in key spots and made some big time finishes. I'm extrememly proud of our team. "
With the victory, the Greyhounds improve to 4–4 on the season. ASU Mid-South now turns its attention to the road, traveling to Jackson, Tenn., on Saturday, November 29 to take on Jackson State Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
