ASU Mid-South Drops Road Battle to Northeast Mississippi, 90–81
BOONEVILLE, Miss. — ASU Mid-South let an eight-point halftime lead slip away Saturday afternoon, falling 90–81 to Northeast Mississippi after a dominant second-half surge by the Tigers.
The Greyhounds came out strong, knocking down 5-of-6 three-pointers in the first half and extending their lead to 12 within the first four minutes of the second half. But from that point forward, Northeast Mississippi seized control. The Tigers outscored ASU Mid-South by 17 after halftime, shooting an efficient 50% from the field and 55.6% from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.
Defensively, the Tigers turned up the pressure, holding the Greyhounds under 40% shooting in the second half and limiting them to just 25% from three-point range after their hot start.
Northeast Mississippi's bench proved to be the difference, with all three of its top scorers coming off the sideline. Yoshi Nimmo poured in a game-high 28 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. Ezekiel Udozorh added a powerful double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds—eight of them offensive—while Javion Stephen chipped in 17 points.
ASU Mid-South was once again led by Phillip Tillman, who filled the stat sheet with 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Jaxson Yancy scored 14, Hugh McFarland added 10, and Braylon Frazier paced the Greyhounds' bench with 8 points.
"We did a lot of things well in the first half, but we didn't handle their pressure or their runs the way we needed to in the second," Head Coach Cody Hastings said. "We've shown we can compete with anybody—we just have to learn how to finish games and stay disciplined for all 40 minutes. They exposed us, especially crashing the offensive boards. This group will respond, and we'll get better from it."
The loss drops ASU Mid-South to 3–3 on the season. The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday, November 18, as they travel to Northwest Mississippi for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
