Lady Greyhounds’ Late Rally Falls Just Short Against Jackson State

A furious fourth-quarter push wasn't enough for ASU Mid-South as the Lady Greyhounds saw their comeback effort come up just short in a hard-fought loss to Jackson State Community College, falling by three points on their home floor.
Jackson State grabbed a slim three-point advantage after the opening period, but ASU Mid-South responded with energy and execution in the second quarter. The Lady Greyhounds turned defense into offense and swung the momentum, taking a three-point lead into the halftime break.
The script flipped coming out of the locker room, however, as the Lady Green Jays made their statement in the third quarter. Jackson State more than doubled up ASU Mid-South in the period, outscoring the Lady Greyhounds 25–11 to build an 11-point cushion heading into the final frame.
ASU Mid-South refused to go quietly. Behind their best offensive quarter of the night, the Lady Greyhounds chipped away possession by possession in the fourth. The comeback bid brought the crowd to its feet, but Jackson State was able to hang on late, knocking down key shots and free throws to escape with a three-point victory.
Jackson State was led by Brooklynn Spates, who poured in a game-high 29 points. Hannah Johnson added 13 points, going a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line, while Mashawna Ridley recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
ASU Mid-South was paced by Alana Whiten's 18 points. Lula-Jae Tranfaglia provided a huge spark off the bench, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds. Areinna Manson chipped in 12 points, and T'nya Ray posted a double-double of her own with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
With the loss, the Lady Greyhounds fall to 2–14 on the season. ASU Mid-South will wrap up the 2025 calendar year on the road, traveling to Ullin, Illinois, to take on Shawnee Community College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
