Northeast Mississippi Pulls Away Late to Sweep Season Series from ASU Mid-South
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — ASU Mid-South battled for three quarters, but a late surge from Northeast Mississippi proved too much to overcome as the Lady Greyhounds fell in the series finale, with the Tigers using a strong fourth quarter to secure the win and complete the season sweep.
The Lady Greyhounds opened the night with energy on both ends, jumping out to a six-point lead after the first quarter. But the momentum shifted before halftime as Northeast Mississippi responded with a run of their own, outscoring ASU Mid-South in the second period to take a 3-point advantage into the break.
ASU Mid-South continued to fight, trimming the deficit to just one heading into the fourth quarter. However, the Tigers seized control in the final frame, fueled by a barrage of three-pointers from Baylon Middleton. Middleton scored all 12 of her points from behind the arc, knocking down multiple timely threes to help Northeast Mississippi pull away.
Maniya Kirksey led the Tigers with 17 points, while Christina Fulton added 16. Middleton's sharpshooting and Nakyiah Walker's 10 points rounded out a balanced offensive attack for Northeast Mississippi.
The Lady Greyhounds were powered by another standout performance from Lula-Jae Tranfaglia, who posted an impressive 23-point, 16-rebound double-double. Ka'mbili Nelson contributed 9 points, but ASU Mid-South struggled to keep pace in the final minutes.
With the loss, ASU Mid-South drops to 2–9 on the season. The Lady Greyhounds now turn their attention to their next challenge as they hit the road for Jackson, Tennessee, to take on Jackson State Community College on Saturday, November 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
