Bio
Sam Smith returns for a second season after completing perhaps the greatest freshman season in program history. The Arkadelphia-native averaged 19.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 57.5% from the field, 37.3% from the three-point line, and 78.2% from the free throw line while earning Region Co-MVP honors and being named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team. Smith is the third Greyhound to earn All-American honors and first freshman to be named in school history.
Smith comes to the Greyhounds after helping the Arkadelphia Badgers to a 22-7 record and a share of the 4A-7 conference title with a 10-2 record before falling in the 4A South Region Tournament under Head Coach Donald Williams. Transferring from Gurdon (AR) after his junior year, Smith averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot per game while shooting 60% from the field, 33% from the three-point line and 70% from the free throw line in his lone season at Arkadelphia.
He was voted the top player in the conference while earning 4A-7 All-Conference honors, was named to the 4A All-State Team, and was selected to compete in the Arkansas Activities Association/Arkansas High School Coaches Association Basketball All-Star Game that was to be held at the University of Central Arkansas June 26-27 before being cancelled due to COVID-19.
