Greyhounds Load Up All-Region Team
Six Greyhounds were named to the 2017-18 All-Region Team for NJCAA Region 2 highlighted by MVP Terrandus Smith.
Six Greyhounds were named to the 2017-18 All-Region Team for NJCAA Region 2 highlighted by MVP Terrandus Smith. For five sophomores, this marks the second year in a row all five have made it. Smith, Dee Montgomery and Trevor Banks are repeat First Team members while Montee Randle and K.J. Patrick were named to the Second Team for the second year in a row. Freshman Kamron Rose was the lone freshman, also named a Second Team selection.
A 6-foot, 4-inch guard from South Side High School in Jackson, Tennessee, Smith currently averages 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game with single-game highs of 35 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. He also led the Greyhounds with 18 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in a Region 2 Championship victory last Saturday, earning MVP honors.
Montgomery, A 5-foot, 11-inch guard from Horn Lake High School in Horn Lake, Mississippi, is averaging a team-leading 15.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game while hitting a team-high 76 three-pointers this season. For his career, he has high games of 37 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals.
A 6-foot, 7-inch forward from Senatobia High School in Senatobia, Mississippi, Banks is currently averaging 11.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting a team-high 61% from the field, and has high games of 27 points and 14 rebounds.
Randle is a 6-foot, 4-inch guard from Forrest City High School in Forrest City, Arkansas, and is having a stellar sophomore season after missing the last 11 games of his freshman year with an injury. He currently averages 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, and has game highs of 20 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals.
A 6-foot, 6-inch forward from Russellville High School in Russellville, Arkansas, Patrick currently averages 9.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. He has game highs of 21 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals.
Rose, a 6-foot, 8-inch center from Jackson, Tennessee, currently averages 8.6 points, a team-leading 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game. He also leads the team in double-doubles this season with seven games in which he registered double figure points and rebounds.
The Greyhounds (25-5) are currently ranked #13 in the nation after winning the NJCAA Region 2 title for the second year in a row and advance to play MCC-Penn Valley this Saturday in Kansas City, Missouri. The winner will advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament March 20-24 in Danville, Illinois.
