For the first time in the seven years of the men's basketball program, the Greyhounds have won both regular-season games against NJCAA Region 2 rival North Arkansas College with an 81-68 victory Saturday at The Dog House.
The win also gives ASU Mid-South a school-record eight wins in a row that started with the Greyhounds' 82-79 victory in Harrison on January 21.
Both records did not come easy, however, as the Pioneers' Preston Groesbeck scored 12 points in the first half to help North Arkansas take a 38-32 lead at the break. But the Greyhounds got defensive after the intermission, keeping Groesbeck scoreless and holding the Pioneers to only 30 second-half points while posting 49 points in the final frame.
Terrandus Smith scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second half while brother Terrikous Smith's four three-pointers after the break aided the comeback on his way to 19 points. K.J. Patrick totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds while Dee Montgomery finished with 16 points and 10 assists for ASU Mid-South.
The Greyhounds host Bethel University JV Monday at The Dog House following the women hosting Three Rivers College in the basketball program's annual Sophomore Night in recognition of the sophomore student-athletes from both Greyhound basketball teams. The women's tipoff is at 5:30pm with a short ceremony afterwards followed by the men's game.
