Going back to a city that's been good to them in the past, the Greyhounds have signed Xavier Young to an NJCAA Letter of Intent and Scholarship Agreement for the 2016-17 season.
Young, a 6'7", 230-pound forward, graduated from Watson Chapel High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 2015 and earned All-Conference and All-State honors while averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game and shot 59% from the field as a senior for head coach Matt Busch. The Wildcats finished their season with an outstanding 25-6 record before falling in the state tournament quarterfinals where Young also garnered All-State Tournament honors.
Young becomes the fifth Greyhound to come from Pine Bluff, most recently following Tevin Brown who signed in April to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Texas at Tyler following a highly successful two years in West Memphis.
"We recruited Xavier out of high school, but he wasn't in a place to sign and attend college," said Greyhound head coach Chris Parker. "During the year off, he has worked and trained really hard to be ready to come in and play this year. Xavier is someone we feel can have a big impact because of his size and athleticism. He does a good job using his body in the paint, but he can also face up and shoot or drive. We feel he can go as far as his focus and work ethic will take him," Parker said.
Young becomes the Greyhounds' eighth signee for the 2016-17 season:
